Get the Facts
Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD) wants to build an Elementary school on the Borello Family Property (Peet Rd and Cochrane) that is contaminated with Dieldrin.
Highly toxic pesticide that was heavily used on the proposed site from the 1950s-1970s until it was banned by the EPA.
Biomagnifies, becoming more toxic, as it is passed along the food chain. Long-term exposure has proven toxic to humans, far greater than to the original insect targets.
Linked to severe long term health problems such as Parkinson’s, breast cancer, and immune, reproductive and nervous system damage.
Extremely persistent organic pollutant that does not easily break down, and remains in the soil, because it is not water soluble.
Travels by attaching to dust particles and so transported great distances by wind.
Is an endocrine disruptor and can adversely affect a fetus whose mother is exposed prior or during pregnancy.
Efforts to mitigate the contamination in 2004 failed as Dieldrin levels are now 20 times higher.
NO new testing is proposed even though the heavy rains this year may have shifted Dieldrin concentration levels in the soil.
Disruption and removal of the soil will contaminate not only the proposed school, but also the nearby landfill, pumping station, Coyote Creek, and air surrounding Morgan Hill, due to high winds.
The Department of Toxic Substance Control is currently under investigation for FAILING to provide adequate oversight, but is slated to oversee this project.
The Architectural Contractor (McClosky) has backed out of the project (1/17), after testing the soil.
The Morgan Hill Unified School District lacks transparency since the inception of this project and fails to answer any of the community’s questions and concerns.
MHUSD Trustees Say Trust the Government and DTSC,
but history tells us we CANNOT Trust the Government or DTSC
The Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC)
has a history of putting the community “at risk”. (Read more)
The Community is speaking out/
But we need more voices for MHUSD to hear
this is a serious issue the community does not support
Morgan Hill does not need another school
and does not need toxins to blanket our community
